Associate of Fine Arts
Students should choose program requirements based on one of the tracks below to complete a minimum of 60 hours. Courses can be selected from the following disciplines: Art, Theater, and Music. Students should visit with an advisor for discipline specific options.
Degrees
Within Associate of Fine Arts degree, the college shall include opportunities for the achievement of competence in written communication, oral communication, mathematical skills, and the scientific method.
AFA Art: Program Outcomes
Upon completion of the AFA degree: Art emphasis, graduates will be able to demonstrate and apply:
- An understanding of the visual language of art through the application of the elements and principles of art and design
- A basic knowledge and appreciation of the theory, history, and philosophy of art
- A working knowledge of art criticism
- Evidence of concentrated experience in studio art
- Appropriate skills and knowledge to pursue a productive career or further education in their discipline
AFA Music: Program Outcomes
Upon completion of the AFA degree: Music emphasis, graduates will be able to demonstrate and apply:
- Ensemble skills of score reading, counting, listening, following a director, and collaborating with other players/singers
- Analytical melodic and harmonic skills
- Computer capability in skill-building, notation, and other music software programs
- Mastery of rhythms, meters, basic composition skills, and piano skills
- An understanding of the history of Western Classical music from the Middle Ages through the contemporary period
- Appropriate skills and knowledge to pursue a productive career or further education in their discipline
AFA Theatre: Program Outcomes
Upon completion of the AFA degree: Theatre emphasis, graduates will be able to demonstrate and apply:
- The ability to employ conceptual understanding in relevant aspects of theatrical production
- An understanding of the roles and procedures in theatrical productions
- Proficiency in production skills
- An understanding of the historical and contemporary contexts for theatre arts
- Skills necessary to pursue a productive career or further education in their discipline
